Helmedau

Pan aethom i’r Amgueddfa Imperial War yn Manceinion gwelsom lawer o helmedau a oedd yn cael eu defnyddio gan y milwyr yn ystod y rhyfel. Roedd un helmed yn edrych fel crwban ac ei enw oedd Y Crwban hefyd, roedd hon yn helmed dda iawn ar gyfer adlewyrchu y bomiau. Enw un arall o’r helmedau oedd y madarch oherwydd ei fod yn siap tebyg i fadarch. Y cap fflat oedd y math cyntaf o helmed i gael ei ddefnyddio a doedd o ddim yn amddiffyn pen y milwyr rhyw lawer. Roedd yr helmed Kettle wedi ei gwneud o ddur ac yn siap het a chantel arni. Fe wnaethom ddysgu fod llawer gwahanol siap o helmed wedi bod dros y blynyddoedd ond mae’r un peth sy’n gyffredin yn siap pob hemled oedd fod cantel llydan arnyn nhw er mwyn amddiffyn wyneb y milwr.

When we went to the Imperial War Museum, we saw many of the helmets that were used by soldiers during the war. One helmet looks like a turtle and it is called  a turtle and it was good at reflecting bullets.  One helmet is called a mushroom and it looks like a mushroom. The flat cap was the first kind of helmet used and it had very little protection for the soldier’s head. The Brodie Helmet was also called Hemlet Steel and it was made in Britain and the M1917 helmet was made in the USA. A Kettle Helmet was also another type of helmet that was made of steel in the shape of a brimmed hat. We learnt that there have been many different designs of helmet over the years but the main thing that is the same is that they have a wide brim to protect the soldier’s face.
